There are many people in the world that have restricted freedoms, and many of them are subjected to incredibly harsh conditions. In fact, there are some countries where people have so few rights that the people don’t even know much of anything about the outside world. Activists are working to help spread fundamental human rights to all areas of the world. Human Rights Foundation is one such organization of activists. Human Rights Foundation is among the largest and most successful of organizations with the goal of promoting human rights. Thor Halvorssen got Human Rights Foundation off the ground in 2005. His strategies and motivation for preventing human rights violations worldwide has been astonishing. The organization has gone on to help large numbers of people in different countries of the world.
Thor Halvorssen spent his years growing up in Venezuela. Venezuela has a very shaky human rights record, and it has been seen by many people as South America’s least democratic country. Unfortunately, Thor Halvorssen knows firsthand that there is a lot of injustice in Venezuela. There is significant activity of drug cartels within Venezuela, and Thor Halvorssen’s father was working to bring them down, in his job as a police investigator. However, the system turned against him, due to corruption. In fact, he ended up in jail. Corrupt individuals did this, in order to keep him from uncovering information on drug cartels in the country.
Hugo Chavez was been seen by many people as powered crazed and a poor political leader. Thor Halvorssen’s mother protested his presidency. At the protest, which was completely peaceful, she was shot by a Chavez supporter. Luckily, she did not die of her injuries.
Thor Halvorssen built Human Rights Foundation from the very start. The organization was started in 2005, and it has been doing important work ever since. Human Rights Foundation doesn’t work on behalf of any political organizations. Many human rights organizations have political ties that may alter the causes that they get involved in. However, Human Rights Foundation’s lack of political ties makes it possible for them to be involved in a wider variety of causes.
The organization also goes to great lengths to reach difficult to reach oppressed people. For instance, they have helped to spread information to North Korean citizens. They have even hired computer experts to help North Korean citizens have access to the internet, without government censorship. Check out his Facebook to stay up-to-date with news and events.
